Mrs. K. Dragon and Mrs. G. Spencer were again awarded a 2009-2010 Building Futures Grant from the VBCPS Education Foundation for:
Growing a Courtyard Community Garden!!

grant award
Any gardener will tell you that gardening naturally is a lesson in critical thinking and problem solving!  Our school will experience 2 forms of collaboration and cooperation.  Our enhancement over last year’s project is to include participation from another school as well as business community.   Rather than just reading about plant development in a science book, students in 2 schools will experience the whole process in a hands-on and “in” approach!   Students from Pembroke and Kemps Landing Magnet School will be working collaboratively, within grade levels, and between the two schools, to discover what is needed to successfully make plants grow and thrive. Both schools will communicate via email or a gardening blog, share pictures, and visit during the growing process.

What an exciting way to learn first hand about plants!
